Dewhurst Torevell has a highly qualified and experienced team of independent advisers. In addition to the four directors of the business we have also developed and recruited a group of talented investment professionals and support staff.
These individuals collectively have a wealth of experience. Clients of Dewhurst Torevell get to know a number of these key people to ensure that there is always depth and continuity to all our client relationships.

Alan Torevell BSc (Econ.)
Joint Owner and Company Chairman
Alan Torevell graduated from the London School of Economics in 1961 with a degree in Economics.
He then spent several years teaching economics during which time he acted as Education Consultant to the London Stock Exchange. In 1973 he co-founded one of the first IFA companies, Torevell Mahon. He has been an Independent Financial Adviser for over 40 years.
Alan was a founder Director of Dewhurst Torevell in March 1997 and is company Chairman.
Phillip Dewhurst BA (Hons)
Joint Owner and Managing Director
Phillip Dewhurst graduated from York University in 1981 with a degree in Economics.
Following seven years commercial experience with Marks & Spencer and the Tootal Group, he moved into the financial services sector in 1989. Phillip has more than 20 years experience as an Independent Financial Adviser and joined Dewhurst Torevell in March 1997 as a founder and Managing Director.
Christopher Little BA (Hons)
Joint Owner and Director
Christopher Little graduated from Liverpool University in 1981 with a degree in Philosophy.
Chris had five years experience in the insurance sector before becoming an Independent Financial Adviser in 1987.
He joined Dewhurst Torevell as a Director in January 1998 and has over 20 years experience as an Independent Financial Adviser.
Martyn Torevell MA (Cantab), ACA
Joint Owner and Director
Martyn Torevell graduated from Cambridge University in 1988 with a degree in Natural Sciences. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen in London before transferring to Milan.
He returned to London in 1993 and worked extensively overseas with clients including a number of government controlled investment vehicles in Europe and the Middle East. He left Arthur Andersen in 1997 to join Dewhurst Torevell as a founder Director.
In addition to his accountancy qualifications Martyn is qualified to Diploma of Financial Planning level.
Philip Shaw BA (Hons)
Assistant Director
Phil Shaw graduated from Leeds University in 1994 with a degree in Economic and Social History. Following graduation, he worked for Norwich Union for 8 years as a Project Manager and IFA Consultant, initially in Norwich but later in Manchester.
Phil left Norwich Union to join Standard Life in November 2002 to take up a position as an Account Manager and joined Dewhurst Torevell in September 2005. Phil holds the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning, is a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and is a fully qualified Chartered Financial Planner.
Emma Holden BA (Hons), MA
Emma Holden graduated from Kingston University in 1990 with a degree in Business Studies, before completing an MA in European Studies at Guildford University.
Emma has over 15 years experience in Financial Services and Financial Planning. Emma joined Dewhurst Torevell in 2000 and holds the Diploma in Financial Planning.
Stephen Hughes BSocSci (Hons)
Steve Hughes graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1995 with a joint honours degree in Philosophy and Political Science before starting his career in financial services at Friends Provident.
After gaining experience at the life assurance company he joined Dewhurst Torevell in July 2000. In addition to his role as one of our registered financial advisers, Steve is also head of Investment Research. He holds the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning, is an Associate of the Personal Finance Society and is a fully qualified Chartered Financial Planner.
Stephen Jordan BSc (Hons)
Steve graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2002 with a degree in Economics & Politics. After taking a year-out to travel across Canada he began his career in financial services with the financial outsourcing company Higham Group, where he worked on site on a number of projects with L&G and Norwich Union.
Steve joined Dewhurst Torevell in February 2005. He is one of our registered financial advisers and holds the Diploma in Financial Planning.
Edward Painter BAEcon (Hons)
Edward graduated from the University of Manchester in 2006 with a degree in Economics & Politics. He began his career in financial services with The Bank of New York Mellon, acting as direct liaison for a number of their high value clients before joining Dewhurst Torevell in January 2008.
He is a registered financial adviser and holds the Diploma in Financial Planning as well as the Investment Management Certificate.
Amanda Valentine MA (Oxon), ACA
Amanda Valentine joined Dewhurst Torevell in September 1999 as Financial Controller and Company Secretary. Amanda graduated from Oxford University in 1987 with a degree in Chemistry and then joined KPMG qualifying three years later as a chartered accountant. She was a Senior Manager in Audit prior to joining Dewhurst Torevell.
Amanda was appointed to the role of Compliance Officer in July 2008.
Jane Kellett
Jane joined Dewhurst Torevell in September 2011 as Technical Manager.
She began her career in financial services in 1987 in an administrative capacity passing her Financial Planning Certificate in 1993 before joining 1st Software (Avelo) as a training consultant in 1999. Jane had spent the last four years working for regional and national financial advisory business as a system supervisor/trainer.
